Is your cat hiding something from you? Part 2

Jun 21, 2022

Vaccinating your cat helps to protect your precious pet from various debilitating diseases, some of which may not be immediately obvious as cats are adept at hiding signs of illness. As a result, sometimes they may be suffering for a long period of time before any symptoms become apparent. This is why it is so important to have your cat regularly vaccinated and undergo an annual health check with one of our veterinarians.

‘Have we seen your cat lately?’ is our focus during June, as now is the perfect time to book your cat in for a health check and vaccination at Sydney Animal Hospitals. During this time we’re also offering free dental checks by our veterinary nurses, to have your cat’s dental health assessed, along with reduced price dental procedures.

Having a regular health check of your cat is vital to maintaining their health. If you’ve noticed any subtle signs of illness in your cat it is time to book them in for a check-up. Some of the things to keep an eye out for include changes to their appetite, water consumption or toileting behaviour. Or changes to their activity levels, grooming behaviour or body condition.

When you book your cat in for their vaccinations, one of our veterinary team will perform a full physical examination of your pet and discuss with you any relevant history about how your cat is going. We’ll then be able to administer the appropriate vaccinations and discuss any recommended treatment options available to best manage your cat’s health.

Kittens require vaccination against feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus and feline panleukopenia at 6-8 weeks of age, 10-12 weeks of age and 14-16 weeks of age. There are also additional vaccinations available against feline leukaemia (FeLV), chlamydia, rhinotracheitis and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Our veterinarians will discuss the most appropriate vaccination program for your cat based on their lifestyle and environment.

Cats require booster vaccinations to ensure long-term immunity against contagious diseases, and their first annual booster vaccination is due one year after their 14-16 week vaccination, and then yearly thereafter as part of their annual health check, as we want to ensure that your cat remains happy and healthy into their older years.

So during June at Sydney Animal Hospitals book in your cat for their vaccinations, health check with one of our veterinarians, or for a free dental health check with one of our veterinary nurses. There’s also reduced-price dental procedures.

Have we seen your cat lately? Cats are the focus during May and June at Sydney Animal Hospitals with the opportunity for your cat to have a free dental health check with one of our veterinary nurses – bookings essential and there is also reduced-price dental procedures.   This offer is valid until the 30th June (T&C’s apply).
