Extended & Long-Term Pet Boarding
Going overseas, relocating for work, or facing an extended hospital stay? Our long-term boarding gives you peace of mind for stays of two weeks, two months or more.
For extended periods, we focus on keeping your pet's routine as close to home as possible. That means consistent feeding times, regular exercise, daily mental stimulation and weekly veterinary health checks to monitor weight, coat condition and overall wellbeing. We'll send you updates throughout your pet's stay, and you're welcome to call any time to check in.
Boarding for Senior, Medicated or Anxious Pets
Many standard kennels can't accommodate pets with medical or behavioural needs, but we can. We regularly board pets that need a little extra care, including:
- Diabetic pets – insulin injections administered on schedule by our nursing team, with blood glucose monitoring as needed
- Post-surgical pets – wound checks, pain management and restricted movement protocols overseen by our vets
- Pets with arthritis – soft bedding, easy-access enclosures and gentle exercise tailored to mobility
- Anxious dogs – calm, low-stress environments with familiar items from home; we also offer support for pets with separation anxiety
- Pets on special diets – including prescription, hydrolysed and home-prepared diets (learn more about

Vet-Supervised Boarding vs Standard Pet Boarding Kennels: What's the Difference?
Most boarding services in Sydney focus on accommodation, feeding and exercise – the basics of looking after your pet while you're away. On-site veterinary support usually isn't available, and pets with chronic conditions or complex needs are frequently turned away. If something goes wrong, your pet has to be transported to an external vet, often with delay.
Vet-supervised boarding at Sydney Animal Hospitals works the other way around. Boarding sits inside a fully equipped veterinary hospital, not alongside one – which means your pet's stay is shaped by the same clinical standards we apply to every patient in our care.
Why Choose Sydney Animal Hospitals for Dog and Cat Boarding?
Vet-Supervised Care – Our experienced and dedicated veterinary team ensures your pet’s health, safety, and comfort at all times.
Safe & Secure Facilities – Our boarding kennels in Sydney offer a protected environment for your pet with secure fencing and no unauthorised access.
Short & Long-Term Boarding – Whether you're going away for a weekend or a while, we offer flexible extended pet boarding options.
Individualised Attention – Every pet is unique, and we tailor all of our pet services to their specific needs, ensuring a happy and relaxing stay.
Clean & Conscious – We maintain a high standard of hygiene by creating a calm atmosphere with fewer kennels and animals to minimise mess and stress.
Please give us a call at Sydney Animal Hospitals to discuss your pet boarding needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions pet owners ask about Sydney dog and cat boarding
How Much Does Pet Boarding Cost?
The cost of boarding your pet can vary depending on the length of stay, and any special requirements (e.g., medical care or dietary needs). For an estimate, please contact us directly. We strive to offer competitive rates while ensuring the highest level of care and comfort for your furry friend.
What Should You Consider When Looking for Pet Boarding in Sydney?
- How big are individual kennels?
- Is there any natural light?
- Will your pet have access to a run during the day?
- How many kennels are there in the complex? Fewer kennels can mean a quieter, calmer stay.
- Do the kennels smell bad? If so, this can indicate poor hygiene or ventilation problems.
- Do they provide food or can you provide your own pet’s specific diet?
- Can they medicate pets if required?
- Do they have veterinarians in attendance should an emergency occur?
Do You Board Cats and Dogs Separately?
Yes, we board cats and dogs separately to ensure a suitable, stress-free environment for your pets. Cats are housed away from dogs in specifically designed catteries.
How Do You Ensure the Safety of My Cat or Dog?
Our boarding facilities are designed with safety in mind. We have secure fencing, monitored areas, and strict protocols in place to ensure that all pets are safe and comfortable during their stay. Our experienced team is always on-site to provide supervision.
What Happens if My Pet Gets Sick During Their Stay?
Because our boarding facility is part of a fully equipped veterinary hospital, your pet has immediate access to qualified vets if they fall ill or are injured. We'll contact you straight away to discuss treatment, and our team will provide whatever care is needed on the spot.
What Do I Need to Bring When I Drop Off My Pet?
We recommend that you bring your pet’s regular food to maintain their diet consistency. However, we also offer high-quality food options if preferred. Please also bring any necessary medications, up-to-date vaccination records, and personal items like their bed, blanket or favourite toy to help them feel more at home. We’ll take care of the rest!
What Vaccinations Does My Dog or Cat Need Before Boarding?
Before boarding, dogs typically require a C5 vaccination (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Canine Cough) and cats require an F3 vaccination (Feline Enteritis, Calicivirus, and Rhinotracheitis). Vaccinations should be up to date, ideally administered at least 14 days before boarding to ensure immunity, especially for kennel cough.
