Dental disease can often be hidden from sight, with unhealthy teeth contributing to pain and other diseases, and cats can be adept at hiding any discomfort. If we haven’t seen your cat for a while, Sydney Animal Hospitals has the purr-fect opportunity during May and June with free dental checks by our veterinary nurses, to have your cat’s dental health assessed, along with reduced price dental procedures.
Healthy teeth and gums help ensure that our pets live a happy and comfortable life. Regular health checks with our veterinary team are so important, so that we can examine your pet and discuss any dental treatment or preventative management that may be required to help keep your cat’s teeth healthy.
Cats can’t brush their teeth, but just like people, they are at risk of developing dental problems because bacteria and plaque accumulate on their teeth contributing to gum disease or gingivitis, which can be painful and also lead to bacteria entering the bloodstream and circulating to affect other body organs.
Some tell-tale signs that your cat may require a dental treatment include if they have bad breath or if they have yellow or brown tartar deposits on their teeth – as normal healthy teeth should always be white. If there is a red line along the gum margins around the teeth, this usually indicates gingivitis -or inflammation and infection of the gums. Cats with dental disease may have difficulty eating, may salivate excessively, and can sometimes have bleeding gums.
Our veterinary team will discuss with you the appropriate treatment options available to manage your cat’s dental health. This may include a dental scale and polish procedure performed under a general anaesthetic to clean and protect the teeth. Special dental foods are also available to help reduce the risk of dental disease in cats.
Recognising when your cat’s teeth require veterinary attention, seeking advice from our veterinary team and implementing the appropriate treatment will ensure that your cat remains happy and healthy into their older years.
Have we seen your cat lately? Cats are the focus during May and June at Sydney Animal Hospitals with the opportunity for your cat to have a free dental health check with one of our veterinary nurses – bookings essential and there is also reduced-price dental procedures. This offer is valid until the 30th June (T&C’s apply).
Vaccinating your cat helps to protect your precious pet from various debilitating diseases, some of which may not be immediately obvious as cats are adept at hiding signs of illness. As a result, sometimes they may be suffering for a long period of time before any symptoms become apparent. This is why it is so important to have your cat regularly vaccinated and undergo an annual health check with one of our veterinarians.
As our pets age, they can suffer from a variety of conditions which can be painful and debilitating. Effectively managing any chronic pain conditions in our pets ensures that they can live a happy and comfortable life.
