Why vaccinations are important for your pets?

Nov 17, 2022

Vaccinations and health checks are important for keeping your pets healthy and protected from a variety of diseases such as parvovirus and canine cough in dogs, and cat flu and feline enteritis in cats. Starting from when your pet is a puppy or kitten, vaccinations boost your pet’s immunity against disease and protect them as they grow older.

Regular health checks and vaccinations through-out their adult life ensure that our veterinarians have the opportunity to diagnose, treat or even prevent problems before they become life-threatening. Early detection of disease is the key to pet health. These regular health checks also provide you with the opportunity to ask us about your pet’s nutrition, behaviour and any other issues of concern.

Parasite control is VITAL in Sydney to ensuring your pet is protected from ticks, fleas, mites, heartworm and intestinal worms, as parasites can be deadly.

Sydney Animal Hospital’s Preventative Health Care Plans take the worry out of keeping track of your pet’s health care needs.

Our plans cover pets for their annual vaccinations and health check, along with all parasite control treatments – including for fleas, ticks, mites, heartworm and intestinal worms. Our Ultimate plan includes an annual wellness blood test and urine test, whilst our Senior plan includes half-yearly blood tests – helping to monitor our older pets health.

Pets on all three plans have access to unlimited free nurse health checks, and nail clipping with every visit. Discounts are included for grooming, boarding and Hill’s pet food purchases. Our Senior plan also includes discounts on arthritis medications and laser therapy. For our Preventative Health Care Plans, we’ll send you reminders to ensure you never miss a vaccination or check-up for your pet, and the parasite preventative treatments are delivered free to your door.

I am often asked why we vaccinate our dogs every year and what diseases we are protecting them against. Vaccination is an essential part of the creation of ‘herd immunity’ whereby the larger animal population is protected because the prevalence of many life-threatening, contagious diseases is substantially reduced due to greater immunity in the population of pets as a whole.
